“If you find the religion of the Plain People interesting, then this book is a must read! As one who was born and raised in an Old Order Amish Community, Reynold Kremer’s Driving the Back Roads has enlightened me about the history of the Amish heritage. Typically, Amish are not taught their own history and don’t pursue education beyond eighth grade. We didn’t question and blindly accepted what the Bishops and Ministers taught us; “If it was good enough for our forefathers, it’s good enough for us today and we should remain faithful to the doctrine as they had for three hundred years.”
“This informative book about the religious beliefs of the Plain People is without a doubt the best book I’ve had the pleasure to read!”

“What is it that makes the Amish people Amish? Written in an easy to follow, informative style, Driving the Back Roads is a pleasure to read. The author makes it clear that religion and life are inseparable for these people. Not only does he give us a healthy appreciation for their everyday lives, he examines the faith upon which they build their lives. In a loving fashion he points out the positives and negatives of their religious outlook. I highly recommend this to anyone who is familiar with the Amish or who would like to know more about them and their theological cousins.”
